Soothing Your Baby’s Sensitive Skin ♡

(a gentle guide from one mama heart to another)

When Gabby was brand new, her skin was so delicate — the tiniest thing would leave red patches, and my heart would ache watching her fuss. Two years later and she still struggles with eczema and sensitive skin. And Lou breaks out in hives and rashes from pretty much anything. That’s why I learned how much the little choices matter: the fabrics we wrap them in, the products we use, the quiet ways we care for them. If your baby has sensitive skin too, know you’re not alone, and it gets easier. Here’s what I’ve learned along the way — straight from our little Oklahoma home to yours.

Why Hypoallergenic Fabrics Are Everything

Regular cotton just didn’t cut it for my girls when they were babies. The moment we switched to 100% Peruvian pima cotton? Night-and-day difference. It’s softer than anything (like a cloud against those brand-new cheeks), breathes beautifully so she never overheats, and gets even cozier with every wash. No harsh dyes, no scratchy seams — just pure, buttery softness that lets sensitive skin rest easy.

We only use 100% pima at Gabby Lou Baby because I never want another mama to worry the way I did. Look for “100% pima” or “organic cotton” on labels — your baby’s skin will thank you.

The Gentlest Skincare Routine (the one that saved us)

Keep it simple, fragrance-free, and oh-so-soft.

♡ Short, lukewarm baths — hot water strips moisture and makes things worse.

♡ Pat dry (don't rub) and moisturize right away with something clean and calming — we love creams with shea or coconut oil.

♡ Skip anything with parabens, sulfates, or strong scents. Gentle is always better.

Diaper Duty Without the Drama

Sensitive bottoms need extra love:

♡ Change often to keep things dry.

♡ A good zinc-oxide barrier cream is magic.

♡ Let that tushy air out a little every day — happy dances during diaper-free time were my girls' favorite.

Creating the Coziest Little Nest

♡ Keep the nursery 68–72°F — not too hot, not too cold. Layer pima pieces so you can adjust easily.

♡ A humidifier is a game-changer in dry winters (or Oklahoma wind!).

♡ Use unscented, natural cleaners around the house — no harsh chemicals lingering on tiny skin.

Watching for Those Little Signs

Red patches, dry flakes, extra fussiness when dressing — if you see them, switch to softer fabrics, add a soothing cream, and breathe. Most of the time it calms right down. If it lingers, chat with your pediatrician — they’re your best teammate.

Every baby is different, and that’s okay. Pay attention to what makes yours sigh and snuggle deeper. Those little cues are everything.

You’ve got this, mama. Those tender days of sensitive skin are just a season — and with soft pima hugs, gentle routines, and so much love, your baby will feel safe and cozy every step of the way.

We’re here for all of it at Gabby Lou Baby — every piece made with the same care I give my own girls. Because your little love deserves to feel nothing but comfort and love against their skin.

All the softest, most gentle hugs in the world,

Anne, Gabby & Lou ♡
